After Rosario, Argentina,
resident Héctor Varela named
his son Messi — in honor of
hometown hero Lionel Messi —
government officials banned
parents from naming children after the soccer superstar.
According to Mundo Deportivo, officials expected a flood of
babies named Messi could
“lead to confusion,” and they’d
apparently rather deal with
school rooms full of di Marias
and Cambiassos. The timing seems a little off
here. Lionel Messi is a four-
time World Player of the year,
and he’s been a superstar for
Barcelona for going on nine
years. Now we’re all of a sudden worried about too
many Messis?
